Fire prevention of electric meter boxes is an important part of ensuring the safety of households and residential buildings. The following is a detailed fire prevention guide for electric meter boxes:

1、 Reason for the fire in the electric meter box

Aging of electrical circuits: Under the effects of high temperature baking, light exposure, and corrosive environments, the lifespan of electrical circuits inside the meter box may be shortened, and the insulation layer may crack or even short-circuit, leading to fires.

Electricity overload: Summer is the peak period for electricity consumption, especially in old residential areas where the capacity of the meter box may not be sufficient to cope with the use of high-power appliances, resulting in overloaded operation of electrical circuits, which can easily lead to fires.

Incorrect installation or unauthorized wiring: Failure to follow proper procedures during the installation of the meter box, or unauthorized wiring by residents on the meter, may increase the risk of fire.

Surrounding environmental issues: Flammable and explosive materials such as debris, old furniture, and humid environments piled up around the electricity meter box may pose a fire hazard.

2、 Preventive measures

Enhance fire safety awareness:

Residents should raise their awareness of fire safety and understand the importance of fire prevention in electric meter boxes.

Regularly inspect electrical circuits and promptly repair and replace any issues such as aging or damage.

When using electrical appliances, it is necessary to choose them reasonably according to the load of the electrical equipment, and avoid turning on multiple high-power appliances at once.

Standardized installation and wiring:

Professional personnel should be hired to install household electrical circuits and provide conduit protection.

Choose appropriate fuses and do not use aluminum or copper wires as substitutes.

Residents are not allowed to connect or wire electricity meters without authorization.

Keep the environment clean:

Flammable and explosive materials shall not be stacked around the electricity meter box, and the environment shall be kept clean.

The property management unit should regularly clean up the debris piled up in the corridors and stairwells of the community, and keep the passages unobstructed.

Strengthen property management:

Property management units should strictly fulfill their fire safety management responsibilities and strengthen fire safety training for their staff.

Equip sufficient fire-fighting equipment and maintain the integrity and effectiveness of fire-fighting facilities and equipment.

Regularly check the operation status of the distribution box and electricity meter box in the community, and promptly handle any problems found.

3、 Fire response measures

Cut off the power supply:

When a fire is found in the electric meter box or an unknown burnt smell is smelled, the main power supply at home should be immediately cut off.

If the power supply is not cut off, do not directly splash water to extinguish the fire, in order to prevent electric shock or electrical explosion from injuring people.

Alarm and evacuation:

Call 119 emergency hotline in a timely manner and wait for rescue from the fire department.

If the fire is too strong and uncontrollable, evacuate immediately to a safe area.

Self protection:

At the scene of a fire, one should remain calm and cover their mouth and nose with a damp cloth to prevent inhaling toxic smoke.

If there is a fire downstairs and the fire is unknown and the smoke is strong, do not rush downstairs. Close the door and block the gap with a damp cloth to prevent smoke from entering. Call 119 and wait for rescue.

By implementing the above measures, it is possible to effectively prevent the occurrence of meter box fires and reduce losses and injuries in the event of a fire.
